Incan Spirulina, Raw Cacao, and Cayenne Smoothie
This is my husband Mark’s (and my) new breakfast favorite.
Spirulina is an incredible source of protein, and yields more nutrition per acre than any other food. Two hundred times more protein per acre than beef! Plus, each gram of protein in Spirulina is four times more absorbable. Incan Spirulina is the purest and most mild tasting of any commercially available Spirulina (I purchase mine from this company).
Raw Cacao is one of the best sources of magnesium in nature, and contains high amounts of calcium, zinc, iron, copper, sulfur, and potassium. It contains many naturally occurring chemicals such as, alkaloids, proteins, magnesium, and beta-carotene, that enhance mental and physical well-being. Raw Cacao is very high in antioxidants… Higher than Goji Berries! And if you’re a chocolate lover, it’s an easy and incredibly healthful way to get your fix.
The cayenne is optional (if you don’t like spicy foods), but gives it a fun kick and is a little metabolism boost.
Makes enough for 3 small smoothies, or 2 large
1/2 cup rolled oats
3 tbsp raw cacao
2 tsp Incan Spirulina
1 tsp cinnamon
3-4 shakes cayenne
Few pinches of chia seeds
1 cup almond milk
1 frozen banana
Measure out dry ingredients and add to blender. Break up frozen banana (with your hands) and add to blender. Measure out almond milk and pour over contents of blender. Blend until smooth (no chunks of banana, and contents of blender move freely).
Add frozen strawberries or ice to obtain desired thickness (strawberries will result in a creamier smoothie, but I prefer ice for thicker smoothie). Enjoy!
